From all appearances Peter and I grew up in a close 3 generation Scarsdale, N.Y. family. In our teenage years it became increasingly obvious that our parents' marriage had not been a solid one. It dawned on us that our father was succumbing to all the worldly influences of success and suburbia and wanted out. It had been on his agenda for quite a while. It hit both Peter and me quite hard, but, God be praised, it led our mother to seek God with all her heart and she was wonderfully converted. We watched her hungrily immerse herself in the the Word and both Peter and I saw the difference. Within a few years we independently sought Jesus Christ and found new direction for our lives. High on our new heavenly priorities was a strong Christian marriage to a lovely believer.

I was a staff member of IVCF the year after graduation from Yale, the year John Stott came over from England to lead missions at Toronto, Michigan, Harvard and Yale. I chose that instead of going to Columbia Medical School. At the first IVCF fall conference I met the girl God wanted me to marry, Peggy Hunter. We've had a wonderful 62+ years together.

Peter got to know Sandra through his work with CRIS and they married some years later. I was privileged to be his best man. He also married a gem! Thanks be to God for bringing these two wonderful Christian girls into our extended family.
