Bishop Ken and Helen Clarke
It has been a great joy to serve alongside Peter and Sandra in the Anglican Leadership Institute.
We admire them both and thank the Lord for them. Our memories of Peter are saturated with thanksgiving.
Peter was a total inspiration. His energy was endless, his mind was active, his enthusiasm was infectious and his vision was breathtaking. He defied the ageing process and he was the most energetic 83 year old man we have ever met.
In contrast to some in leadership Peter was a man of outstanding integrity. He spoke the truth and lived it. He was an honest man. He also was a man of genuine humility and was eager to serve. All in the Anglican Leadership Institute in Martha’s Vineyard will never forget him cleaning the floors, washing the dishes, clearing the tables…not to mention his biblical preaching and life related teaching Like Jesus he was servant hearted.
The secret of his life was an open secret..his sincere and life changing faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. The Cross of Christ and the Resurrection of Christ were at the very foundation of his faith. He preached Christ crucified. Peter Moore had the Gospel in his veins. His commitment to God’s revealed truth and the authority of Scripture determined his life, priorities, values, attitudes and beliefs. He loved the Gospel, taught the Gospel, preached the Gospel and lived the Gospel. He was courageous and creative in proclaiming the Gospel and in obedience to Jesus had great joy in making disciples. He loved to see younger Christians and leaders growing and maturing in their faith.
The words of the late Mike Ovey (former Principal of Oak Hill Theological College) as he preached at an Ordination Service encapsulate so accurately Peter’s heart and vision. He was preaching at St Helen’s Bishopsgate in London on Acts 20:17-38 and he ended his sermon with these words….…
‘We want you to be better than us, we want you to be more faithful than us – we want you, spiritually speaking, to tower above us so that the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ stands high in this land and that men and women may know the blessings of eternal life. That is our dream for you, that is our prayer for you, not that you are as we are, but that you are better.’
Peter Moore could have preached those same words!
Thank you Lord for the life, witness, faith and inspiring example of dear friend Peter Moore!
