It was with real sorrow that I learned Peter Moore had finished his race in this world. Yet my sadness was tempered by the joy that he now is fully experiencing the glorious hope he gave so many—of being welcomed into the intimate presence of the God he loved so completely.

Peter embraced God’s passion to reach the next generation of leaders for Jesus Christ, and he gave it his tireless energy, intellect, and humor. After twenty-five years, I took on the ministry he had birthed and shaped. He humbly granted me full freedom to operate outside his immense and gifted shadow.

Peter had gathered a team of staff, board, and supporters as dedicated and gracious as he. For many years this amazing FOCUS community has been committed to speaking Jesus into the independent school culture, with patient and creative responses to those who might dismiss faith in God. The culture began to listen. I was grateful to share for a short while in the experience.

When it was obvious that new leadership had to be found, the FOCUS community again displayed Peter’s gracious generosity of spirit. I will be forever grateful.

Today, Peter’s legacy continues to encourage a life-long unabashed commitment to Jesus’ redemptive mission on this earth. We all miss Peter’s wisdom and so must rely even more on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
