Rector

Holy Apostles Episcopal

Katy, TX

I was affected by Peter before I met him. I went to FOCUS at Saint Edwards school. I grew up going to Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach, Fl where my youth minister was a clergy graduate of Trinity Seminary.

I first met him when he visited my senior high youth group one night.  Later on he would always tell me that he remembered my excellent questions that night.  Well I didn’t remember that night at all!  But Peter did.  Because Peter cared about you and especially the next generation of Christian leaders.

When I was deciding on where to go for seminary he helped me connect what I was learning in my secular college bible classes to actual ministry.  He helped me and many others see that you could be academically rigorous and still faithfully cling to the authority of the scriptures.

While I treasured my time in his last year as Dean of Trinity seminary, what impacted me the most was what he did in “retirement.”

He never stopped mentoring and caring for the future leaders of the church.  The young people, the “non-important” people until his death. He met with me and a few other clergy yearly to pray and listen to each other. Despite Peter’s decades of experience, incredible  intelligence, and age, he was just like one of the guys.  Well except he always wore khaki pants and loafers with no socks all day even though we were in a cabin in the mountains. And whoever was cooking that night, he would always make sure that the dinner plates started in the oven so the food stayed hot!

No, he wasn’t your average man, he was a great man.  But a great man that didn’t monopolize the time he spent with six young clergy.   He spoke just as much as everybody else and listened even more.  He encouraged and supported others to the end.  A great servant of the church.  I miss him and love him.  Thank you Sandra, Jennifer, Kate, and David for sharing him with us!
